What We Do
As the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) American Indian Alaska Native (AIAN) Quality Improvement Organization (QIO), we provide quality improvement technical assistance to Medicare-certified hospitals, clinics and nursing homes managed by the Indian Health Service, Tribes and Urban Indian Organizations. We work alongside these health care facilities and support new or ongoing efforts that improve quality of care and patient outcomes.
We focus on four primary areas:
- Preventive health and wellness
- Patient safety
- Behavioral health
- Capacity building and leadership development
Who We Are
The AIAN QIO team includes health care quality improvement advisors (QIAs), who have clinical and administrative experience, many of whom live in the communities in which we serve and have worked to support improvement efforts in varied health care settings.
Our QIAs collaborate with eligible providers by supporting them in the implementation of wise practices, performance improvement strategies and community-tailored interventions. We support traditional healing practices to ensure improved outcomes for patients and providers. Please contact us to learn more about this valuable program.
Sit in on the recording of one our introductory sessions and learnwho we are, how our program can benefit Tribal health care communities and howwe can partner with organizations and facilities to support existing or newquality improvement efforts with best practices and customized, culturallytailored interventions.
Patients experience their care as a journey, not in silos. Quality Improvement (QI) means that every handoff matters, fragmentation breaks trust and high quality care creates continuity. In this video, Dr. Ken Bernard shares more about how to center the patient in QI work.
